Eddie Vedder was hand picked by director Sean Penn to provide the music for the film adaptation of Jon Krakauer's popular book of the same name. Vedder delivers music and lyrics that totally connect with the story, the main character and the audience. The cover of Gordon Peterson's Hard Sun makes us think about how big and small the world is all at once. The song Society, co-written by Jerry Hannan, asks "but if less is more, how you keepin' score?" as a statement to our country's ever growing greed and want. These two songs provide the cornerstone for the overall tone and message of the album.

Woven into the 11 track album is the "score" of the film with haunting non-vocal tracks like The Wolf and End Of The Road which give you both the raw feel of the Alaskan wilderness and the loneliness of traveling it alone. Since this is Eddie Vedder's only solo studio album to date, this quick soundtrack is a must have for Vedder and acoustic fans alike,.
